May 17, 2011—Rocco Landesman, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, today announced that the Center for Independent Documentary has been recommended for a grant of $50,000 to support the feature-length documentary, Regarding Susan Sontag. This is the third grant that the film has received from the NEA.

The project team makes two production trips to New York and one to Hawaii to conduct interviews with colleagues, relatives and friends of Sontag. They have now completed principal photography and are preparing to begin editing the film.

Director Nancy Kates presents her work and screens excerpts from the documentary at the CUNY conference “The Scandals of Susan Sontag” in March, 2011.
